Auntie Shrew
Auntie Shrew is an anti-hero in The Secret of NIMH and a friend of Mrs.Brisby, and former enemy of Martin. Although she appears to be an antagonist, she is actually just rude and a little sarcastic at certain points.
The Secret of NIMH[]
Auntie Shrew is looking for Mrs. Brisby so that she can know that Spring has arrived early. Theresa puts away her scarf while Cynthia, the second youngest, tries to warn Auntie Shrew to not disturb Timmy. However, she ignores Cynthia as being fidgety, just like her mother. Martin is in the other room getting ready to look for Mrs. Brisby. He storms out ready to battle any thing in his path: The Dark, The Farmer, Dragon, nor The Great Owl. Auntie Shrew prevents him from running away long enough for Mrs. Brisby to arrive. Mrs. Brisby scolds Martin for trying to run away while an upset Shrew says that Martin is a Brat. She also tells Mrs. Brisby to leave the winter house or be shaken up from the nearby plow.
Later, Auntie Shrew is nearby. She warns everybody to flee, with rabbits sounding the alarm. She also helps The Brisbys move to safety. Stuck between two conflicting orders regarding Timmy's health & welfare, Mrs. Brisby intercepts the plow. Auntie Shrew frantically and furiously chases her. Shrew slows down the tractor by removing a plug wire, and stopping it by removing a fuel line. She rescues the distressed Mrs. Brisby. On the way Auntie Shrew tells her to see The Great Owl. Jeremy gladly takes Mrs. Brisby to see him.
Jeremy meets Auntie Shrew, who bounds and gags him with his own string. She accuses him of being "in league with those awful rats" and leaves him in the care of the children while she looks for advice what to do with him. At the same time she threatens to feed him to Dragon. However, Mrs. Brisby arrives later to say that Jeremy is telling the truth about the rats helping. She is busy cleaning when she hears the rats arrive. They attach the equipment to the concrete block with all five of them inside. It does not take long before she falls in her wash tub and is knocked unconscious by an ornament.
Her final scene in the movie is when she calls out Mrs. Brisby's name to celebrate the move.
The Secret of NIMH 2: Timmy to the Rescue[]
Auntie Shrew later appears as a minor character. Her appearance changed drastically and her mind seems to wander. She now wears stereotypical elderly clothing and did not age well.
